Judaic Icons

Here are some Judaic Icons for your desktop pleasure. Please enjoy!

Please note that these are for personal use only and are not to be included in any other icon collection. If you want to use them for any other purpose, like a web page, just send me an e-mail. (These are posted here with permission)

In case you are not familiar with the Jewish faith, here are some brief explanations for the icons. If you are interested in further information check out Judiasm 101: at http://www.jewfaq.org/. This is an excellent reference.

Book of Life - Where one's fate is written at the end of the The High Holy Days.

Dreidel - A top used for a game played during Hanukah.

Gregor - A noisemaker that is used to drown out the name of the evil Haman during the reading of the story of Esther.

Hamantaschen - A filled cookie in the shape of Haman's hat.

Honey and Apples - It is a tradition to dip apples in honey at Rosh Hashanah for a sweet New Year.

Menorah - A candle holder used at Hanukah holding eight candles and a servant candle. One candle is lit each night of Hanukah.

Mezuzah - This is hung in the doorways of some Jewish homes.

Purim Mask - A custom at Purim is to dress up as the characters in the story of Esther.

Seder Plate - A plate of special symbolic foods used during a Seder dinner at Passover.

Shofar - A shofar is made from a ram's horn. It is blown on Rosh Hashanah and again on Yom Kippur.

Torah - The holy book of the Jewish faith.

Sukkah- A wooden structure built during the harvest festival of Sukkot. The roof is covered with greenery and the inside is decorated with fruits and vegetables.

Star of David - A symbol of the Jewish faith.
