“Never go to bed angry.” My father told me this when I got engaged and it’s stuck with me since. It’s always better to stay up and talk things over rather than leave them unresolved for hours or even days. Sue Brown, New York, NY
“Make sure you and your partner respect each other. Never lose that respect.” It’s great advice because it’s true. You can’t have a successful, lasting relationship unless there’s mutual respect. I just have to look at my parents, married for over 40 years, to know that my dad lives by his own words and now I do, too.

“Don’t judge others unless you’ve walked in their shoes.” It was something my dad said all the time. He lived in Holland during World War II and saw the horror and pain that came from intolerance and ignorance.
Josey Vogels, Toronto, ON, Canada, sex and relationships columnist and author of My Messy Bedroom (Harper Collins)
“If someone’s bugging you or bossing you around, just leave them alone.”
Michaelya, age 10, Aurora, Ont.
