You can never have too many Christmas songs, right? Pick up one of these albums to add some unique Christmas tunes to your favorite holiday playlists:
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Come Darkness, Come Light
Nearly 20 years into her recording career, Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter has released her first Christmas album which features a selection of traditional songs and covers, as well as six original Chapin Carpenter tunes.
What does it sound like? Relaxing and reflective, Chapin Carpenters soothing voice slides over the delicate piano and guitar arrangements over the twelve tracks.
Perfect for playing when you're winding down for the day.
Standout tracks: Original songs "Christmas Time in the City," "The Longest Night of the Year"
Melissa Etheridge
A New Thought for Christmas
Rock 'n' roller Melissa Etheridge's sultry, smoky voice delivers soulful twinges to Christmas songs--both new and old. Features six new tunes penned by Etheridge.
What does it sound like? This ten song collection features a number of easy-listening tracks ("Glorious," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas") that will be nice background music, but the best tracks are the handful of rabble-rousing rock numbers.
Perfect for playing when whipping up a great holiday party dinner.
Standout tracks: Sassy renditions of "Blue Christmas," "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," and the toe-tapping new song "It's Christmas Time."
Sixpence None the Richer
The Dawn of Grace
The newly reunited Christian pop/rock quartet puts their own stamp on nine well-worn Christmas classics. This album also features two original Christmas songs written by the band.
What does it sound like? Sixpence put a contemporary twist on Christmas standards such as "Carol of the Bells," and Joni Mitchell's "River." Singer Leigh Nash's woman-child voice is comforting and sweet--like a nice cup of hot coco. The result is an album that is warm, inviting, and quite charming.
Perfect for playing while you're crafting holiday gifts or wrapping presents.
Standout tracks: The two original tracks, "The Last Christmas" and "Christmas for Two" are both winners, as well as a captivating version of the Spanish traditional choral song "Riu Riu Chiu."
